Originally produced by the Sub-Logic Corporation, the programme startled and fascinated computer buffs in the early 1980’s shortly after the first release of the IBM PC, as it presented stunning graphics (for the time) in colour only available elsewhere on very expensive computers. In addition, the software made extensive use of the special and sometimes undocumented features of the IBM PC, and for several years this software was used as one ofthe standard tests to see if a clone was truly “IBM compatible”.

Microsoft, the giant of the PC software business, bought the rights to the programme, and have steadily improved it. Version 4. 0 now takes advantage of the 32 bit power of the 386 and 486 processors, making the simulation smoother and faster.
