Sydney’s Bankstown Airport is placing new restrictions on aircraft circuit times in an effort to settle local resident noise concerns in the area.

Sydney Metro Airport Bankstown CEO Colin Grove advised in a statement that the new “noise abatement procedures” would take effect from March 7, “bringing forward the finishing time for circuits from 11pm to 10pm Monday to Friday”.  However, until the end of daylight savings the finishing time will be brought forward to 10:30pm until AEST resumes. “We consider this is a balanced measure in response to community concerns with aircraft noise,” Grove said.

“The measures include a later starting time for helicopter circuit activity on Sundays from what was previously 6am to a friendlier time of 9am.  Together with the changes to circuit operations we have also implemented tighter operating procedures to reduce the amount of noise generated from aviation operators based adjacent to residential areas,” Grove said.

Grove noted that the training time adjustments were agreed upon after consultation with the local aviation industry.

“The airport remains genuinely committed to striking a balance between the local community needs and airport operations.”
