Greg Dunstone, a pioneer of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) technology, has received the Royal Aeronautical Society’s prestigious Lawrence Hargrave Award for 2011, presented in Canberra on April 12.
“Greg Dunstone has led Airservices Australia’s ADS-B initiatives since proposing the first trial in 2000,” the RAeS noted. “His pioneering work and leadership resulted in the successful deployment of this technology in Australia.”

Today Dunstone, a 40 year Airservices veteran, is responsible for strategic planning of all ATC surveillance systems for the Australian ATM provider.
“I join all Airservices employees in congratulating Greg on receiving this award,” Airservices CEO Greg Russell said.
“When we began operational use of the network in upper airspace across the continent it was, and still is, the most ambitious ADS-B deployment. Greg has been instrumental in every element of this project.”
Recognising achievements at all levels and in all disciplines of Australian aerospace, the Lawrence Hargrave Award is presented every two years.
