Qantas has expressed its disappointment in the IASC’s decision to only award it four weekly services on the Fiji route, claiming that the allocation would not allow its services to be viable.
The airline, which filed in competition with V Australia for capacity to Fiji, says in its response to the IASC’s draft determination that the commission placed too much emphasis on the business traffic and freight being offered by the V Australia application. It also noted that the assumptions that the Qantas Group would be able to continue to freely codeshare on Air Pacific’s services to Nadi were not necessarily valid.

As expected, V Australia welcomed the decision to award it capacity to operate six weekly Sydney-Nadi services with its Boeing 777-300ERs. The carrier has also made a separate application to transfer 360 seats of capacity currently not being used by Pacific Blue, which would allow it to operate daily services on the route.
Qantas launched its application after V Australia applied to the IASC to allow it to operate daily Sydney-Nadi services using a combination of new capacity allocations and the transfer of the previous allocations from Pacific Blue. In a competing bid, Qantas sought a determination to allow Jetstar to operate daily services with Airbus A321s.
