Air Pacific will relaunch as Fiji Airways early next year.

Fijian national carrier Air Pacific has unveiled the brandmark that will be used when the airline relaunches itself as ‘Fiji Airways’ next year.

The brandmark is built around a ‘Masi symbol’ designed by Fijian artist Makereta Matemosi.

“At the centre of the new Masi symbol is a distinctive Teteva motif, which symbolises the airline, its values, and the spirit of Fiji,” the airline said. “As an integral part of the new ‘Fiji Airways’ brand, this Teteva was designed to represent spirituality, considerations of other, Fijian hospitality and the connection that ‘Fiji Airways’ will offer between Fiji’s 333 islands and the rest of the world.”

The carrier is set to relaunch its brand early next year when it takes delivery of the first of three Airbus A330s scheduled to arrive during 2013. The re-brand is part of a larger overhaul that saw Air Pacific report a profit this year after two years of significant losses.

Qantas, which owns 46 per cent of the airline, has been locked in contentious talks with the Fijian government over selling its share.
