The Victorian state government is aiming to “aggressively” wrest back aviation business lost to other states in recent years through the creation of what it calls a ‘national aviation precinct’.

Announcing the strategy, the government has signed an agreement with maintenance, repair and overhaul operator John Holland as a cornerstone partner to help attract new inward investment and businesses from other states.

Victorian aviation minister Gordon Rich-Phillips said the plan had been enthusiastically embraced by the aviation industry, adding the government would: “…aggressively seek to attract aviation businesses from other states and internationally to establish the precinct as the leading aviation hub in the Asia Pacific region.”

It is hoped more private sector participation will emerge around the John Holland facilities to form a cluster of specialist aviation companies including component suppliers and training institutions.
