Embraer has selected Pratt & Whitney as its engine supplier for a second generation of its E-Jet airliner family.
Using the PurePower PW1700G and PW1900G geared turbofans, Embraer believes it will achieve double-digit fuel efficiencies when combined with improvements to wing design and systems.

While the program for a second generation of Embraer’s popular 70- to 120-seat jets is yet to be launched, the Brazilian manufacturer says the aircraft could enter service during 2018.
Pratt & Whitney continues to conduct tests on its geared engine design, which will also power Bombardier’s CSeries and Mitsubishi MRJ and is one of two powerplant offerings on the Airbus A320neo series, to date accumulating 4,200 hours and 12,400 cycles.
More than 900 E-Jets are in service with 63 customers in 43 countries.
