A Lion Air 737-800 has landed in the sea after reportedly overshooting the runway at Ngurah Rai airport near Denpasar, Indonesia.
Lion Air has confirmed that 101 passengers and seven crew have been rescued with no fatalities reported. Up to 45 injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals.

The aircraft, PK-LKS, which entered service this year, came to rest in shallow water beyond the runway, allowing evacuees to be recovered quickly. The fuselage broke behind the wings as a result of the impact, which occurred at 1500 local time in fair weather conditions, according to local authorities. The pilot in command had reportedly been with Lion Air for six years.
Just last month Lion Air announced an order for 234 A320-family aircraft, slightly more than a year after the airline ordered 230 737s.
