Former Qantas executive Rob Sharp has been appointed to head up Tiger Airways Australia, following ACCC approval of Virgin Australia’s effective takeover of the Australian arm of the Singapore-based low cost carrier last week.
Sharp has held a number of commercial roles at Qantas over the past 15 years including in strategy and as head of Global Airport Infrastructure and Services, and becomes the latest in a growing line of Qantas execs that have joined John Borghetti since the former Qantas executive general manager took the reins of Virgin Australia.

“Rob’s extensive executive management career in aviation and strong leadership skills will be of great value to the airline. I am confident that Rob will build a sustainable low-cost carrier and bring strong competition to the budget segment,” Borghetti said of Sharp’s appointment, which takes effect from May 1.
“I have full confidence in Rob’s leadership and capabilities. He knows the ground well, and is full of creative ideas and solutions. With him in the cockpit, we can expect strong, sound business decisions, and positive results at the end of the day,” said Koay Peng Yen, group CEO of Tiger Airways.
