Etihad’s CEO named airline industry’s leader of the year

Etihad CEO James Hogan has been recognised for his “outstanding strategic thinking and leadership”, receiving this year’s Executive Leadership Award for the airline’s performance in the last 12 months.

Max Kingsley-Jones, who chaired the judging and is editor of Airline Business said: “In the past 12 months, many airlines around the world have struggled with their business during challenging economic times but James has spearheaded a remarkable growth story and the panel was delighted to make him the aviation industry’s executive leader of the year.”

Last year Etihad reported a 200 per cent increase in net profits to $42 million on revenues of $4.8 billion, a rise of 17 per cent on the previous year.  Passenger numbers rose by 23 per cent to more than 10 million and the air carrier contributed $2.3 billion of direct investment to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and $8.4 billion of indirect spend.

The judging panel included former Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon among former leaders of easyJet and Northwest Airlines.
