Qantas founders Hudson Fysh, Paul McGinnes and Fergus McMaster are among the leading historical figures to be inducted into the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame (AAHOF) during a gala dinner in Wagga Wagga later this month.

“The inductees were people who have not only achieved incredible feats personally but have also made outstanding contributions to the development of aviation,” said AAHOF chairman Steve Padgett.

Other inductees will include aircraft designer Lawrence Wackett, Antarctic explorer Hubert Wilkins, black box inventor David Warren and aviators Freda Thompson and Dick Smith, while the Hall of Fame’s prestigious Southern Cross Award for “an organisation which has made an outstanding contribution to aviation” will be presented to Qantas Airways.

Tickets are still available for the gala dinner, to be held at Charles Sturt University’s Joyes Hall, on Saturday November 16. Visit the Aviation Hall of Fame website here for further details.

I’d say a lot of people wouln’t know about the AAHOF but I guess it’s only been around a couple of years. Hargraves is probably a fitting inaugrual inductee, & Fysh, McGinnes & McMaster are likewise fitting in following up. Well done AA for giving AAHOF the publicity, & well done to the AAHOF for doing it.

Always thought PG Taylor was vastly underrated by Australia.
His association with Kingsford Smith perhaps unjustly relegated him to a lesser role than he deserved.
“The Sky Beyond” to me remains an all time classic of aviation literature.
But a Hall of Fame is very appropriate to what Australia has achieved and in the fullness of time the great names of Australian aviation will be duly honoured
