The Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) which represents most of Tigerair’s pilots has reached a tentative agreement with the airline on a new enterprise agreement.

The agreement comes in the wake of threats by the pilots to conduct industrial action on February 7 following a breakdown in talks between the parties. The planned action was suspended at the eleventh hour after both parties agreed to further discussions on February 10.

“After ten months of negotiations we are now pleased to have an agreement that will ensure Tigerair pilots are substantially better off and see the company continue to grow,” AFAP Executive Director, Simon Lutton said in a statement. “The agreement delivers significant outcomes around two key points, predictable wages and roster stability. It is an excellent package that will be actively endorsed by the AFAP.”

AFAP says the new salary package on offer is in line with that of Virgin Australia and is better than that paid by Jetstar. The union membership will vote on the offer by the end of the month.
