Qantas and LAN have expanded their partnership with a number of new codeshare destinations in Australia and South America.
Qantas said on Thursday it would place its QF code on LAN-operated services from Santiago to six destinations in South America – La Serena, Antofagasta and Punta Arenas in Chile, Lima in Peru and Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Fellow oneworld member LAN would codeshare on Qantas-operated flights across the Tasman, as well as on the Flying Kangaroo’s Australian domestic flights.
“Santiago is a key gateway for our customers and this development will strengthen its prominence as hub for onward connections,” Qantas executive manager of international sales Stephen Thompson said in a statement.
The two carriers currently codeshare on each other’s flights between Sydney and Santiago.
Qantas this week applied to the International Air Services Commission (IASC) for an additional allocation of capacity to operate a fourth weekly Sydney-Santiago service over the summer holidays. The new flight will operate on Fridays between November 21 2014, and February 13 2015, Qantas said.
Currently, Qantas flies non-stop from Sydney to Santiago on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays with Boeing 747-400s, while LAN uses an Airbus A340 for its daily service from Sydney that stops in Auckland on the way to Santiago.
