In July, Qantas said in an advisory note to travel agents the route was being cut due to poor performance.

“After a thorough review, it was unsustainable to continue flying on the route because of low passenger numbers,” the July 30 advisory said.

“Customers will continue to be able to travel to/from Gladstone via Brisbane.”

QantasLink’s two remaining destinations from Gladstone were Brisbane and Rockhampton, according to the Qantas website. The airline launched the direct Sydney services in March 2013.

Virgin Australia also flies between Gladstone and Brisbane, having started on the route in September 2011.
