Students in Air New Zealand’s Aviation Institute’s basic aircraft maintenance program will now come away from the course with both academic qualifications and technical accreditation.
The school says graduates of its European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) 147 course will also have a New Zealand level five diploma thanks to New Zealand Qualifications Authority approval.

Air NZ Aviation Institute general manager Jignasha Patel said he expected international students to be delighted by the ability to gain two qualifications from the aircraft maintenance engineering course.
“Not only will they graduate with one of the most sought-after internationally-recognised qualifications in the aviation industry, they will now also benefit from the additional recognition of an academic qualification,” Patel said in a statement.
In July, 15 students graduated from the Institute’s first ever EASA aircraft maintenance course in Christchurch.
The Institute is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air NZ and in addition to engineering courses also offered ab-initio flight and bridging training from five flying schools in New Zealand and a School of Service for flight attendant, check-in and call centre positions.
It also had ground training courses for land and airside operations such as baggage handling, refuelling and cargo jobs.
