Royal Australian Navy (RAN) MH-60R Seahawk ‘Romeo’ combat helicopter crews have marked the achievement of a significant milestone, having flown 1,000 hours during training in the US.

“The NUSQN 725 team clicked over the achievement without fanfare – but with considerable style – during an exercise flying as a dip gang against a Peruvian Type 209 submarine,” Navy Daily reported. NUSQN 725 commanding officer Commander David Frost was quoted as saying that the team members are focusing on upgrading their skills and working closely with other armed forces during their time in the US.

“It’s great to see young maintainers and aviators so keen and focused on warfare training,” he said. “To launch into a local exercise including six US Navy Romeo squadrons, three P-3 and P-8 squadrons, two visiting US Navy carrier groups and a live submarine is an opportunity not lost on any of us.”

NUSQN 725 is due to conclude its activities in Jacksonville, Florida in December, with all personnel and equipment expected to be in Australia in time to commence operations as a full squadron from early next year.

NUSQN 725 will be profiled in the November issue of Australian Aviation.
