Tigerair Australia has enlisted the assistance of rugby league players from the Melbourne Storm to help travellers successfully manage the busy Easter travel rush.

Several Storm players, including National Rugby League premiership winners Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk, have produced an educational video entitled “How to Fly Tigerair”.

In the video, which runs for a little over three and a half minutes and was released on the airline’s Youtube channel on Thursday, the Storm players, team cheerleaders and Tigerair staff guide passengers through the booking process online, how to checkin, navigating through the airport and all-important restrictions on carryon luggage.

Tigerair, which is 100 per cent owned by Virgin Australia, is a Melbourne Storm sponsor and the video will also be promoted at the club’s home game on Monday.

“Essentially the video is a fun way to educate the travelling public about flying Tigerair and also to leverage our partnership with Melbourne Storm,” Tigerair commercial director Adam Rowe said in a statement on Thursday.

“Demand for flights is always very high across the Easter holiday period, which means airports are busier than usual and we want to help everyone get to their destination as quickly as possible.”

Tigerair said all passengers were able to checkin online and self-serve kiosks were available at “popular ports”.

The airline also recently tightened its carryon rules, with passengers now limited to taking a maximum of 7kg on board spread across two pieces of luggage, from 10kg previously.

“We’re always keen to be as transparent as possible about our travel rules which enable us to pass on consistently great value fares,” Rowe said.

“It’s easy to fly Tigerair – simply know your options and play by the simple rules. Essentially that’s about turning up on time and ensuring you book the right luggage allowance for your travel needs. The boys in purple found it easy and we want our customers to as well.”

The Storm’s involvement in the Tigerair video follows other sporting teams who have appeared in airline safety messages.

For example, the NZ All Blacks have been part of Air New Zealand’s inflight safety video, while the Australian men’s cricket team and members of the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics team have also participated in a safety video for Qantas.
