Working in partnership with the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), Lockheed Martin has announced the successful completion of the first phase of the research-and-development initiative known as Project Coorong, which is focused on the development of over-the-horizon radar capability, including the ability to track fast and small targets at night.

Lockheed Martin and DSTG worked together to demonstrate the practical application of capability from the lab-based initiative. Funded by the company, the project is an example of how private-public partnerships can innovate and collaborate to deliver new capabilities on schedule and under budget, Lockheed Martin stated on June 9.

“Project Coorong demonstrates Lockheed Martin Australia’s commitment to engaging and supporting small to medium enterprise companies and developing their innovative ability to participate in leading-edge technology,” said general manager Jack Mahoney. “The project successfully completed its milestones ahead of schedule and in less than 12 months, while bringing on board a number of SMEs new to the program.”

Lockheed Martin Australia has been supporting the Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) since 2003.
