written by australianaviation.com.au | February 17, 2010

The federal government has opened applications for the fourth round of its Regional Aerodrome Safety Program (RASP) which will provide $7 million to undertake safety and access upgrades at aerodromes supporting remote and regional communities.

The funding will be available to communities for projects including repairing or sealing runway surfaces, installing safety equipment such as navaids or runway lighting and other infrastructure, such as animal fencing. To date, $13.6 million has been disbursed to upgrade 116 aerodromes and airstrips around Australia.

In its Aviation White Paper, the government has foreshadowed that the RASP will be merged with the Regional Air Services Subsidy Scheme, Remote Aerodrome Inspection Program and the Remote Aviation Infrastructure Fund into a single fund, which will help to remove some of the crossover between the programs.
