Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation’s G550 business jet’s penchant for breaking records shows little sign of waning, with the aircraft setting a new speed mark during a recent trip between Shanghai and Seattle.
The G550 completed the 5,123nm trip in 10 hours and 29 minutes, Gulfstream said in a statement on Tuesday (US time), flying at an average speed of Mach 0.85.

The company said it was the 55th record set by the G550.
Pending approval from the United States National Aeronautic Association, flight details will be sent to Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in Switzerland for recognition as a world record.
“The G550 never fails to impress as it continues to break records and uphold its lasting reputation, demonstrating why the G550 is a consistent choice for business aviation and special missions operations.” Gulfstream president Mark Burns said in a statement.
Powered by two Rolls-Royce engines, the G550 has a maximum range of 6,750nm at its long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.80.
The aircraft seats up to 19 passengers and sleeps up to eight.
In April, Gulfstream’s ultra long-range G650ER shattered a short-lived speed record of rival Bombardier’s Global 7500, as well as clocking the longest non-stop business jet flight in history.
The G650ER knocked 44 minutes off the time set only a month earlier on a non-stop flight between Singapore and Tucson , Arizona.
