Jetstar Asia has announced that it will fly its first connection to Japan from July 5, extending its daily Signapore-Taipei services on to Osaka.
“Japan is a top three international destination for Taiwanese nationals so we see tremendous opportunity for the introduction of our low fares on the route for Jetstar as the only low cost carrier set to fly between the two cities,” said Jetstar Asia CEO Chong Phit Lian.

The new flights come as part of Jetstar Asia’s aggressive growth plan, which has seen it increase capacity from its Singapore base by 46 per cent over the past year as it has taken delivery of additional A320s. It also comes after the low cost carrier was beaten by Singapore Airlines to the rights to launch flights to Tokyo’s Haneda airport, which is being gradually opened up to foreign carriers.
Jetstar also flies to Osaka from the Gold Coast and Cairns with Airbus A330-200s.
Separately, Jetstar has announced that it will partner with the band Powderfinger to raise money for World Vision and the Yalari Foundation as part of the band’s Sunsets farewell tour.
