The Australian Airports Association (AAA) has launched an online mentoring program to build leadership and help support professional growth and development within the industry.
The AAA Mentoring Program 2019, conducted by Australian mentoring consultancy The Art of Mentoring, will pair airport professionals with experienced mentors by webinar for the year-long course, starting on July 30.
AAA chief executive Caroline Wilkie said airports needed great leadership to thrive and the program would prepare aspiring leaders to achieve career goals.
The program’s chair Peter Pallot, who is the former chief executive of Sunshine Coast Airport, introduced the course at a webinar this week.
Mentors included present and former airport chief executives, general managers or highly experienced people in the field. The program is open to AAA members who work at an airport.

“As well as benefitting mentees, it offers mentors the chance to contribute back to the profession and further develop their leadership and interpersonal skills,” Pallot said in a statement on Tuesday.
Further, Pallot said mentors would have the privilege of building a relationship, sharing experiences and learning with another passionate colleague, as well as earning the satisfaction of knowing they were helping build resilience and talent in the airport industry.
Meanwhile, mentees would be guided by talented and experienced airport professionals helping them achieve their goals through sharing experience, wisdom and technical expertise.
Art of Mentoring said on its website it combined evidence-based mentoring expertise with the latest technology to “deliver innovative mentoring programs with the ability to empower individuals within organisations and associations, improving overall productivity and workplace culture”.
Applications for program close on 28 June 2019. Further information can be found here.
