The hoax saw the passenger terminal evacuated when he entered the airport in pursuit of his estranged wife and children with a knife and fake bomb.

Brisbane Airport

The incident began just before 9pm on Saturday, 2 February 2019 in the terminal’s food court, when Elboushi allegedly pulled out a knife and placed a metal object on a table, claiming it was a bomb, after an argument with a woman.

The court previously heard it was an attempt to gain custody of his children. Elboushi told Australian Federal Police the bomb contained C-4 and he would set it off unless he was able to take his children with him back to Egypt.

Elboushi also threatened to stab himself to death in front of his wife and children.

The stand-off was ended when Elboushi was shot with a non-lethal bean bag round.

Elboushi has been remanded in custody having been previously refused bail, and will be sentenced on 21 April.
