Virgin Australia chief executive Paul Scurrah is set to ask the government to reduce landing charge fees at the country’s airports to help combat the effects of coronavirus.

He told the newspaper, “The government has verbalised its intention to assist the tourism industry and there’s no better time to revisit the decision that [Productivity Commission] report.
“The circumstances we find ourselves in now highlight the absurdity of that decision.

On Monday, the worst day of trading on the ASX since the global financial crash saw Virgin shares limp to a record low of $0.075.
That tumble followed its shares dipping below 10 cents for the first time on 2 March.
The week prior, credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s downgraded its outlook to negative.
