New passenger data from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) shows that the number of domestic passengers increased by 6.1 per cent during March to 4.49 million passengers.
Revenue passenger kilometres increased by 5.0 per cent for the month compared to the same month in 2009, while capacity in ASKs rose by only 3.3 per cent, seeing load factor increase to 79.5 per cent. The number of aircraft trips increased by 7.4 per cent to 49,387.

By route, Melbourne-Sydney remained Australia’s busiest air route with a 17.2 per cent boost in passenger numbers, although the biggest increase was on the Darwin-Melbourne route which was up 42.2 per cent for the month. The biggest decrease was on Maroochydore-Sydney, which was down by 21.5 per cent.
