Air New Zealand has increased its network yet again and will now offer daily returns servicing 11 different routes.

The flights, which take effect from 8 June, are designed for business travellers to leave regional areas such as Tauranga, Nelson and Dunedin and fly to Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch.

On Thursday, 14 May, New Zealand lowered its coronavirus restrictions to ‘Alert Level 2’, allowing recreational air travel to restart.

Initially, the airline operated 32 routes but has subsequently added services to additional destinations such as Taupo, Timaru and Queenstown. The full network, including business-timed flights, is at the bottom of this article.

However, Air New Zealand has previously warned passengers that the flying experience will be significantly different to before the pandemic began.

To encourage social distancing, every second self-service kiosk will be closed, floor markings will be in operation in queues and aircraft will fly at about 20 per cent capacity with the middle seat kept free.

Air New Zealand’s in-flight magazine, Kia Ora, won’t be available, while food and beverage and lounge access was only lifted from suspension on 25 May.

Air New Zealand general manager networks Scott Carr said, “Since publishing our domestic schedule for Alert Level 2, we’ve seen a good initial response from leisure travellers.

“As we further build our domestic schedule, we’re looking to cater for resumed business travel which we know helps support economic activity in regional New Zealand.”
