China Southern is planning a significant expansion of its operations into Australia, announcing plans to fly to Brisbane for the first time, and increased frequencies to Sydney and Melbourne.
From November 1 China Southern will begin three times weekly Airbus A330 flights between Guangzhou and Brisbane. The flights will be the only direct services between Brisbane and mainland China, and will depart Guangzhou every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

“The business case for this service was exceptionally strong with China now being Queensland’s second largest trading partner,” said Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO and managing director Julieanne Alroe. “Our team at BAC has worked very closely with the Australia-China business community in Queensland who have been asking for nonstop services for some time.”
Meanwhile from October 31 China Southern will increase its frequency of service to Sydney to double dailies, and increase Melbourne-Guangzhou flights from three times weekly to a daily timetable.
