It comes after the South Africa service was “temporarily paused” earlier this month as the airline looked to solve biosecurity and customs conditions with government departments.

The arrest follows the US and its allies, such as the UK, cracking down on China reaching out to former pilots.

The initiative will make up part of a $139.9 million investment over a three-year period, alongside funding upgrades for Hobart airport, border facilities in Newcastle, and western Sydney’s international airports.

The drones will in November take off from the supermarket’s car park and fly direct to customers’ homes in a major milestone for the technology.

The tech, which was created in conjunction with Australian X-Ray business Micro-X, will allow passengers to be scanned with their belongings, removing the need to unpack them all onto a conveyer belt.
