As first reported by The Australian Financial Review, former senior project manager at Perth Airport, Jessica Sertis, is launching proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia, alleging she had to work up to 75-hour weeks.

According to Maurice Blackburn principal Josh Bornstein, who represented the TWU, the record penalty meant corporate Australia was on notice that Courts would not tolerate “blatant attacks” on workers’ rights.

The complaint centres on Qantas’ ‘fly carbon neutral’ product, promotion of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and the credibility of the company’s net zero transition, and suggests a lack of clear targets and credible transition strategies.

Plaintiff firm Echo Law has lodged proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia on behalf of ‘hundreds of thousands’ of Jetstar customers whose flights were cancelled during the COVID pandemic.

Last Wednesday (29 May), a 38-year-old man was sentenced by the Downing Centre District Court in Sydney to three years and four months’ imprisonment, with a non-parole period of two years, after being identified over two years ago as a potential suspect of theft at Sydney Airport’s cargo facility.

The filing to the Federal Court includes claims that three of the women were subject to “intimate gynaecological examinations” – one of whom was accompanied by her five-month-old son.
