Lockheed's delivery aims to assist the ADF's AIR5428 Phase 1 Pilot Training System, which seeks to ensure fifth-generation mission readiness for the ADF, and provide flight training to increase the qualifications and skill sets of personnel.
In partnership with Griffith University and RMIT University, the classes, beginning in January next year, will initially offer four micro-credentials, with an additional eight courses coming in 2026 following feedback from the first student intake.
The aircraft, which formerly flew for QantasLink as VH-YQW, will reside at Aviation Australia’s Brisbane Airport hangar, and will offer hands-on experience for students at the Qantas Group Engineering Academy. The plane saw its final flight in December last year.
Now fully operational, the A320 simulator enhances Flight Options’ advanced pilot and flight instructor training programs.
According to official figures cited by the researchers, light aircraft account for over 90 per cent of aviation-related fatalities. More than half the studies reviewed found human factors, including pilot error, poor decision-making, and reduced situational awareness.
The newly created Certificates III and IV in Airborne Operations, driven by the company and released earlier this year by Industry Skills Australia, are envisioned to advance professional training standards in the aviation sector.
